John Romita Sr
John V. Romita (born January 24, 1930) is an American comic book artist best known for his work on Marvel Comics' Amazing Spider-Man and for co-creating the character The Punisher. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2002.
Romita worked on Captain America Comics at Atlas in the 1950's. When work there dried up he moved over to DC Comics where he pefected the romance genre. In the mid 60's, he came back to work for Marvel on Daredevil. When Steve Ditko quit Marvel, Romita moved over to the Spider-Man book and made it his own. He infused the romance he perfected at DC, and with Stan Lee, turned Spider-Man into the most important comic of the generation and the best selling book.
He's also credited, with Gerry Conway, of killing off Gwen Stacy, Spider-Man's girlfriend. He became the art director at Marvel and is responsible for the house style that still exists at Marvel today. One of comics' most important creators.
